Interest. Admiration for someone outside of their group... Neither of those were something Julie felt often anymore, but she had gleaned a little from survivors about Susie. Susie spent her time around survivors, it rubbed her the wrong way but she liked hearing about them. It was all so different from how she spent her life, before the Legion. That was always what drew her towards someone, or something. Being different from home, it was Frank's main appeal (before she got to know him) and now it was Zarina's too, though she knew more about Zarina than she did Frank. She was a war reporter, and she was sure of herself. She had an air of confidence to be admired.
Zarina Kassir was the one to catch her interest the most, and now she was face-to-face with the woman in a saloon. She didn't know who's realm this was, but they were vacant. It took a lot to sneak away from the others, for this. Susie badgered her, Joey made jokes about needing time away from Frank, and their 'honeymoon phase'. Maybe in it's own way, it was true. She loved Frank, she loved Joey and Susie too but she rarely made friends otherwise, especially after Frank's act of romantic arson.
No better time than an endless painful eternity to make connections, though, even if it was just a passing admiration for what someone did. Someone who lived their life in a way that Julie may have once.
But... she wasn't exactly face-to-face yet. The woman was sitting at a chair, maybe Julie shouldn't just stand behind her, and admire her. The shaved undercut, the curls that swept behind her ear, the soft knit of her scarf.
Maybe I should go. I should leave, go back to the Ski Lodge. Julie thought, taking a few steps back. Of course, there happened to be an outstretched arm from a corpse left in the saloon, and the girl fell backwards on her ass.
This is such a shitty first impression. She's going to hate me.
Stunned, she just sat there, staring at the woman before her, who, no doubt, was going to hate this situation. Julie had changed from her plaid sweater, with a grey hood into something more comfortable. Maybe that would be less threatening, as a somewhat display of hey-i'm-not-here-to-kill-you-despite-the-everything-y'know? but probably not.
