She didn’t know if she was supposed to be there or not, cautiously exploring the vast rooms and hallways the Meat Packing Plant contained, but it was all too perplexing not to explore. Perhaps the building had arrived with her, or perhaps it had rested there before, a husk of brutal memories awaiting someone familiar with it. Even the last time she had seen John, she didn’t remember it looking so… off. Even though little bits and pieces matched her haunting recollections, other pieces seemed almost unreal. The thoughts and thoughts of how many poor souls must have died in the plant tirade her with every step, and faintly she could imagine screams echoing through the halls past her.
It had been twisted into something worse, like everything else in her life.
Footsteps echoed loud enough to wake the dead, despite how hard Jill tried to silence it. Every dark corner terrified her, as she expected someone to leap out, suffocate her, and maybe she would wake up with that monstrosity strapped to her head again - and yet every time, the shadows didn’t move. Nothing but she did. It’s only when she reached a forked path amongst the hallways did Jill realize she wasn’t the only one in this building, catching a figure out of the corner of her eye. Right before she made a run for it, her eyes began to make out features on the figure’s face, each one more familiar than that last. Again and again in merely a few moments she discovered a thousand little tiny details she knew - and then it clicked.
“John?” Her voice trembled, bouncing off the empty halls and further into the building’s abyss. The words didn’t sound real. “John?”
Without another thought, she broke into a sprint, barreling down the hallway towards the first human she’d seen in - how long had it been since she arrived here? It didn’t matter. - Everything but him was a blur and she only stopped at the last moment, grasping to hug him the moment she was close enough to. He was here, he was really here.
