The horrors of the Realm never got much easier to deal with. After all, a tough pill to swallow was always going to be a tough pill no matter how many times you’ve swallowed it. Quentin didn’t quite know how long he had been here, but it was long enough to have seen plenty and not want anyone else to see it either. As such, new survivors entering the realm was never a festive occasion, but he and the other veterans of the Realm always went out of their way to get everyone acclimated as quickly as possible to their new home. It made things easier for everyone in the long run, and it made Quentin feel just a bit better knowing that they would at least have the thought in their minds that there were other people there to help them.
After watching a fair few people enter the realm, Quentin felt as if they had the “welcome party” role down pretty well. Even if a new arrival was sprung on them, he had a spiel ready to go. That being said, he had never been around for a new survivor showing up in a trial before they wandered their way to the campfire. The Entity tended to guide those entering the Realm to the fire or at least to another survivor before throwing them into the blade of a killer.
Seeing a boy that couldn’t have been older than him walking around the upper level of the Meat Plant caught Quentin off guard, especially when the boy turned his head to the side, and it became clear that the straps wrapping around the back of his head held a transparent mask to his face. A new survivor? Here?
Shit… this place isn’t gonna be much better than where you’re comin’ from, man.
Quietly, they walked towards the guy, preparing to try and get his attention without scaring him too badly or altering the killer. There had been no radius yet, but that was likely to change in due time. It would be better to give him a slapdash introduction to the realm now than wait until the killer had already gotten to him, so Quentin needed to move.
Much to his chagrin, the subtle heartbeats started up as they got closer to the new survivor. Each step only made the pounding in Quentin’s ears grow louder, and by the time he was close enough to touch the guy, it sounded like the killer was right on them.
What the fuck?
“Hey, I- shit,” Quentin spoke in a hushed voice, a hand on the new survivor’s shoulder as he nudged him around to face them, “Look, I dunno what’s goin’ on, but we gotta get outta here, yeah? ‘s dangerous around here, but I can keep ya safe while y’get adjusted. Just gotta follow me.”
