Ash panted, back pressed against a back wall of the abandoned hospital. Any second, Anna would whip around the corner, and he'd oh so deftly dodge her incoming axe. Slide behind the gurney, move it with him as a barricade on wheels, shove it her way when she got too close.
Any second now, his brilliant and daring plan would be set into motion. He'd keep Anna off Laurie long enough for her to find the others, for the gens to finish, for them to all get out, easy as that. He rolled on the balls of his feet.
Any second now.
...Alright, come on now. Don't get cold feet or nothin'.
"[Anna?]" He muttered, quieter than he intended. Ash cleared his throat, working through the burning in his throat. Blood loss, however immaterial, however fake, his mind would find a way to make hurt. He tried again, something goofy, something that'll roll off the tongue easier than a genuine admission of worry. "[Come on now, we're not done yet, I haven't gotten all my steps in.]" That'd do.
Ash took the broken key from his pocket, jangling the eroded metal against the clean, cold steel of his prosthetic. The chime was soft, but it was louder than Ashley felt he could manage at the moment. "[Come on, Sister Bear. The others are busy, let's not bug 'em.]"
Legend has it, it was written by the dark ones — Necronomicon Ex Mortis — roughly translated, The Book of the Dead.
Anna, hearing the softly muttered Russian, hummed almost pleasantly as she turned the corner, walking toward the almost-familiar voice and letting her axe hang loosely from her hand by her side. "[Yes, yes,]" she murmured, her eyes drifting shut for a moment before slowly pulled back open as she turned into the room where Ash resided.
"[You must be lost,]" she responded to him, walking back out like she hadn't seen him. "[Are you lost, little one? Mother Huntress can help you. Mother can bring you safe.]" She paced around the room, eyes lazily drifting about, only barely taking in the situation around her. "[There are dangerous ones out here. Ones who will hit you, ones who will make it all confusing.]" She meant to reference all of the sound Ash was making only minutes before, the sound having agitated her mind before she was able to settle back in. She had a mission here, didn't she...? She was meant to be doing... something.
Anna turned back into the room with Ash, tossing her head with stress and popping her neck as the veil attached to her mask shifted around her back, catching on the fabric of her shirt only a little before settling back into the normal slither across her back, her shoulders shifting as she tried to settle. She looked at the wall, head drifting to the side not unlike a dog's as she took in everything around her and settled her gaze back on Ash.
"Ashley wouldn't. He lead her away from me, I could be much worse for wear right now." Laurie defended Ash -- he had saved her in that moment. And h saved her every chance he got, she trusted him deeply. Truly, he was one of the people that Laurie found she could trust the most in times like these. Sure. She took a hit, but with throwing hatchets... That's almost inevitable, it's like if Laurie were to stand across a window from Caleb and expect him not to shoot her. It'd be madness. "Upstairs sounds nice though. There's that drop, she couldn't follow all of us at once. Even if Ashley leads her back here." And if Laurie could stay out of sight, or get lost in a crowd of three... Maybe that'd be good enough.
"Thank you," Laurie moved to take the racers arm, groaning in pain. It all washed back over her, having to move again. But she had to, or she'd die here. Not that death meant anything, but maybe, just maybe, Laurie was still afraid of it. In the way of it's still an unknown. You never know what happens when you die, and she supposed now she'd never know. What happens is that she wakes up in front of a campfire, feeling more helpless and frustrated than ever.
